Note about format of winners list

Since we would like to do this as real-time as possible... we are copying and pasting the winners from a PDF into the blog. They may cause weird formatting problems... but note this: all lists will have the following format...

Place BJCP Subcategory Name of Brew Brewer's Name Club Name

Also, because we get a -lot- of entries in different categories, we have to split up the categories into different ones... so the category of the beers may not match the BJCP assigned categories.

Now it's time to feast on lots of good German food. Untill the award ceremony... Prost!

Best Of Show judging report

BOS judging has commenced. While I sit back and drink a tasty raspberry chipotle mead, master judges are slowly (but surely) trying to pick the best 1st place beer of the entire competition.

Over 1740 bottles of beer, 820 entries, 73 cases, 0 broken bottles... it is a cellarmasters dream. Aside from a few mislabled and miscategorized bottles, it wasn't bad.

Mead BOS judging is getting set up behind me... so I guess I should probably get moving.

I don't think it's been said enough here, but a big "Thank You!" to all the volunteers that took their time to help make this happen.

And also to the judges who slammed through 45 flights of beer in 2.5 days with the precision of a warrior ninja monkey.

For now I must take my leave, however I will return later tonight with the real-time update of the winners list.

Cheers for now!

Saturday Morning judging

Here is a pic of Saturday morning judging wrapping up from the cave... er... cellar.

Morning judging went surprisingly quickly.. hopefully the final flights of the day also go smoothly.

A mead tasting is about to commence while lunch is being served... mmm mead.

I will try to blog live during the Best-Of-Show beer / mead judging ... and no... I will not tell you which beer won (at least, not until tonight).

Final Friday judging post

Well it seems that blogspot does not prevent semi-intoxercated blogging... so lets exploit that shall we?!

A full day of judging came and past. Kirby Nelson from Capital Brewing came by and gave a really awesome talk and brought some -really- good beer to drink / sample.

After a couple afternoon judging sessions we had a mini indoor pubcrawl with beers from local breweries and brewpubs... along with a jockeybox with an extra 5 taps on it serving up fine ales, lagers, ciders and meads. 9 taps total along with the pubcrawl made for a good evening.

So far we're up to 30+ beers that are prepped and ready for the Best Of Show round tomorrow.

I will try and (soberly) update tomorrow assuming I get enough caffeine flowing through my veins.

Mmmmm... coffee. Now if only I could get some coffee porter to start the day....

Cheers for now!

Friday Judging - continued

Wow. Just... wow.

Almost done with judging for today... so far no huge issues aside from the buffalo that burst through the door and tore the place up.......

Kirby Nelson from Capital Brewery gave a talk over lunch... if I had to sum it up in one word: awesome. In my (humble) opinion, Capital makes some very solid beers, which he brought many of. He also brought an "Imperial Dopplebock" that is soon to hit the shelves... of which we got a sample. From what I took of the description, it is an oak aged dopplebock with amber sugar used in the boil... but don't take my word for it. You can take my word for this... it was DELICIOUS!

Judging is going swimmingly and we're flying through judging sessions like mad... these people are machines! One of the stewards brought by some homemade sake which is, in my humble opinion, really good. Boozy, yet fruity and delicious. One of the cellar minions has donated his growlers of Rock Bottom beer to be drunk by those who are worthy. Their Amarillo IPA is absolutely delicious... and I am waiting till the Smoked Porter gets opened. Mmmm.... Smoked Porter.

Well I gotta go "work".... or at least... delegate work for those under me.

It's good to be the king.

Will update later with updates if we have them... or at least... if we're sober enough. Trust me... you do -not- want us blogging drunk...

Cheers for now!

friday morning judging

All is quiet now that entries have been sorted and preped for judging. A slight murmur from judges discussing the various ales and lagers presented before them.

Beer is flowing from the taps downstairs.. And no one is drunk... At least not yet.

More updates later.

Wednesday judging - continued

Night one of pre-UMMO judging completed with no major casualties.

There were a lot of colorful four-lettered expletives that were thrown around upon smelling and tasting some of the entries, but all-in-all it seems that the entries weren't all horrible... some 19s being thrown around for scores... but also sounds of 38s, up to mid 40s for scores were also overheard.

Sorry for the lack of pictures... I will try to update more (with pictures) on Friday when the real judging starts.

Also... thanks to Rick and for hosting and providing us with some tasty ales and lagers!

Cheers!

Wednesday judging

So far off to a good start. No one has ran out of the room crying or vomiting yet so I'd say that's good news! Will update later.
